Food crisis amid pandemic
Africa risks reeling from health to food crisis due to the corona pandemic affecting the agriculture sector according to the United Nations and World Bank.
In Kenya, panic-buying and government programs to distribute rice to low-income households have already depleted reserves.
“The entire supply chain has been disrupted,” said Mital Shah, managing director of Kenya based Sunrise, one of the region’s largest rice importers. “In the next couple of weeks, East Africa is going to have a huge shortage.”
