Media Council of Kenya to award 220 new health reporting grant
The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) on Friday 3rd July launched an additional 220 new Health Reporting Grants during a virtual press conference officiated by its Chairman Mr. Maina Muiruri, and the CEO, Mr. David Omwoyo.
"As a council we are touched by the stories and participation of the grantees and we hope that we can do more," an official said during the launch.
This is the third cycle of the landmark Covid-19 Grant Programme.
It featured reflections from five (5) previous successful grantees on their experiences covering Covid-19 from different parts of the country.
These include reporters; Ms. Zainab Said (Milele FM), Mr. Calvin Chitwa (TV 47), Mr. Jilo Dida (Radio Jangwani), Faiz Musa (Radio Rahma) and Damaris Kiilu (Freelance Reporter).
Since its inception, the MCK has received a total of 470 applications out of which 320 were successful resulting over 400 stories on Print, Radio, Online and Television platforms.
"The Grant is to allow advance the discussion on public health in the country, and it will help journalists to cover stories during the Covid-19 pandemic," the head Media Development and Strategy, Victor Bwire said.
