Clinical Officers ,Physician Associates in historic meeting in Ghana with GACOPA formation

The curtain fell as the first ever gathering bringing together carders in the umbrella of GACOPA ended at the Ghanian capital of Accra .Physician Assistants ,Clinical Officers ,Physician Associates ,Clinical Associates ,Medical Assistants ,Health Officers from different parts of the world gathered for a three day international executive and delegates conference at the University of Professional Studies in Accra .The meeting that brought together the carders in a shared theme of Universal Health Coverage was graced by the Deputy Minister for Greater Accra Region Hon Elizabeth SackeyGlobal Association of Clinical Officers and Physician Associates was registered in Ghana as an international body on 27th December ,2018 with the climax of it being the launch that was officially done on 26th April ,2019.The International Executive Meeting held on 25th April saw the election of Austin Oduor from Kenya as the President with Anthony Asare (Ghana) ,Theophile Hamphaye (Liberia ) and Lawrence T Kargbo first second and third Vice Presidents respectively. Joel Padi was elected the Secretary General as Kenya’s Chris Onditi bagging the Organizing Secretary Position .Other positions went to Annette Caara Namugosa (Uganda ,Deputy OS ) Aziza Yusuf (Kenya ,Deputy Gender Secretary ) ,Viola Mujjukiza (Director Communication ,Uganda ) ,Solomon Chomba (Deputy Director of Communications ,Malawi) ,Dickson Tuffour(Director Finance ) and Ibrahim Sessay (2nd Deputy Organising sec ) among othersThe event also saw scientific presentations by different Medical experts organized by The Medical and Surgical Institute (MSSI)  in collaboration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council where  presentations for CPD points  were made .Dr Ameh E.O presented on Sexual Assault with his counterpart Dr Seth Nani discussing about HypertensionAlso presenting was Kenya’s Director of Clinical Services Manasseh Bocha ,the CEO of  Kenya Clinical Officers Council Mutinda Mungisu ,the CEO of the Rwanda Allied Health Professional Council Mr John Ndahimiriwe among othersThe meeting ended with a call to have one name for the cadre  embraced and also to have WHO classify the cardres  as professionalThe need to have one curriculum,one career path with same scope of practice was extensively discussedThe Guest Speaker Prof Brexford Asante presented certificates and citations to guests in a ceremony that also saw the renowned professor discuss the Role of Physician Assistants in Universal Health CareHon Elizabeth Sackey ,MP and Deputy Minister Greater Accra representing the Government hailed the conference and promised to attend the second conference in RwandaThe event ended with the swearing in of the elected executives of the giant association presided over by Bishop Dr. Charles Abban ,the Chancellor of Maranatha University with the elected President Austin Oduor of Kenya giving a vote of thanks and promising to deliver on their key mandatesThe next conference will be held in Kigali ,Rwanda
