John Kiarie Waweru - MP Candidate, Dagoretti South

John Kiarie was born in 1978, the fourth born of a family of eight. He is popularly known as KJ from the popular show Redykyulass.  He ventured into politics in 2013 as an aspirant Member of Parliament for Dagoretti South but lost in ODM primaries. In the 2017 general election, he is vying for the member of Parliament seat for Dagoretti South on a Jubilee ticket after he won the party primaries garnering  9,793 while Waweru got 9, 052 votes.

John Kiarie Comedy

He rose to fame in the late ’90s for mimicking former KANU-era minister Joseph Kamotho and later former First Lady Mama Lucy. He was in conjunction with two other comedians in a group known as Redykyulass. He also ran a comedy cartoon strip for Sunday Nation’s Buzz magazine.

John Kiarie Political Career

KJ was a founding partner of the Vijana Tugutuke youth movement, an initiative aimed at getting young Kenyans to engage actively in decision-making.

During the 2007 General Election, he vied for the Dagoretti constituency parliamentary seat, one of the most hotly contested and disputed political zones. KJ was the ODM Youth chairperson. He lost the seat during the party primaries.

He later decamped to Jubilee Party and is currently contesting for a parliamentary seat for Dagoretti South after he won the party primaries.


Personal Life - Family, Marriage:

He is the fourth born in a family of eight children. His mother died when he was just a few months old she died in mysterious circumstances since she committed suicide. His father remarried and he was taken care of by his stepmother. When he was in form one his elder brother who had introduced him to drawing and acting committed suicide.
