Kenya Kwanza Alliance: William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi's Political Marriage on Shaky Ground as Mistrust Arises

The new political relationship between Deputy President William Ruto and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi risks failing over suspicions and mistrust on the ownership of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance (KKA).

Mudavadi reserved the KKA name in 2021 when he was still a member of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).

ANC secretary-general Simon Gikuru said they would push for Mudavadi to be nominated as the presidential flagbearer under the coalition.

However, Ruto's allies insisted he should vie for the presidency under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The deputy president maintained he's in a good relationship with Mudavadi but his allies want to be cautious to avoid betrayal.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa said UDA pioneer aspirants eyeing respective seats in the August 9, General Election won't vie under KKA.

"We will only have a coalition agreement in which both parties will append their signatures. William Ruto will run for the presidency on a UDA ticket not Kenya Kwanza Alliance ticket,” Daily Nation quoted Barasa.

Turkana North lawmaker Christopher Nakuleu said UDA's agenda was to 'finish' ODM leader Raila Odinga politically.

On his part, Murang'a senator Irungu Kang'ata said the negotiation will be done in good faith and was hopeful there would be a solution.
