Charles Keter, Governor -Kericho County.

Charles Keter, whose full name is Charles Cheruiyot Keter, is a Kenyan Politician who was born on 22nd November, 1969. Keter is a United Republican Party (URP) member. Charles served the Belgut Constituency’s people as a Member of the National Assembly after being elected in 2007. He later became the Kericho County Senator and held his position till he was appointed to serve Kenyans as the Cabinet Secretary for Energy by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Education & Career: 

Charles attended Kapmaso Primary School, a school that is not popularly known in Kenya. He managed to make it, despite having gone to such unknown primary school, to among the best Universities in Kenya, Kenyatta University, where Charles attained his undergraduate degree. Keter also holds a Global Executive MBA from the United States International University (USIU) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Double Maths from Kenyatta University. 

 Charles has been working with Telkom Kenya Limited for a very long time. From 1993 to 1994, Keter worked as a Systems Analyst of Telkom Kenya. He performed well and later promoted to a position of an Assistant Manager of Anti-Fraud Section, Telkom Kenya. He is one of the most successful politicians in Kenya. Keter began his political career in 2002 when he contested for a parliamentary seat and won to represent the people of Belgut Constituency.

Charles joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in 2007 and was elected for the second time as MP for Belgut Constituency. On the year 2008 to 2013, he was appointed the Assistant Minister of Energy apart from representing his people in parliament. Keter won to become the first senator for Kericho County in 2013, a position that Charles held till he was named the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum and in 2021 he was moved to the ministry of devolution upto now.


Personal Life - Family, Marriage: 

 He got married to his lovely wife, Winnie Keter and the two have been blessed with children. His wife, Winnie Keter, heads the Social Economic Empowerment Women Organisation. His wife wanted to join the race for Women Representative to unseat, Hellen Chepkwony. Charles, her husband, advised her not to contest for that seat and she obeyed, indicating how they are close and respectful to each other.
