West Pokot: Boda Boda Operators Hold Demonstrations, Demand Dues for Escorting William Ruto

Boda boda riders in West Pokot county have staged a peaceful demonstration over alleged unpaid dues for escorting Deputy President William Ruto during his visit on Friday, January 21.

The riders demonstrated through Chepareria Town waving twigs and placards and threatened to move to court to seek legal action over the issue.

The West Pokot boda boda riders Chairperson Moses Loitasiwa told journalists that they are aware that the DP gave out the money as their payment, but they are yet to be paid.

"We welcomed the DP in every meeting he did in the four constituencies. We boda boda riders from Chepareria don’t want to be misused by politicians. We want the DP to tell those aspirants to give us our money," Loitasiwa stated.

Chepareria Boda Boda Deputy Chairperson Dennis Ripis explained that they had a lot of expectations when Ruto visited the area but left disappointed as his supporters.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) youth leader in the county Rajab Chombus has come out to rubbish the claims being made.

He stated that the group is being used by Pokot South MP David Pkosing, who is affiliated with Raila Odinga's Azimio la Umoja political outfit.

Chombus said Ruto used his chopper to the area, so nobody was asked to escort him.

“No one gave them the job to escort the DP as he flew and didn’t use the vehicle which could be escorted. No one ate their money. They are playing politics,” he claimed.
