Richest Kenyan Senators, Properties They Own and Their Estimated Net Worth

Kenyan politicians are some of the richest in the continent, considering their huge salaries and allowances. 

A 2014 New World Wealth report showed that people with political connections own more than 50% of Kenya's wealth. 

The Kenyan Senate has 47 elected senators representing respective counties.

The Upper House comprises multi-millionaires who have accumulated their wealth in politics and investments across different sectors of the economy. 

1. Gideon Moi 

Gideon Moi, the scion of the Moi family, was worth £550m (KSh 85 billion) as of 2004, according to the Kroll report cited The Guardian.

2. Moses Wetang'ula

Bungoma senator Moses Wetang'ula has engaged in active politics since January 1993, when he was nominated as an MP by the late retired president Daniel arap Moi. 

His net worth is estimated at over KSh 10 billion.

Amos Wako, a member of the Senate representing Busia county, was Kenya's longest-serving attorney general from 1991 to 2011 when he retired and ventured into politics. 

4. Ephraim Maina

The Nyeri senator is one of the politicians who own choppers in Kenya. 

5. Mithika Linturi

Meru senator Mithika Linturi has investments across real estate, insurance and education sectors. 

6. Charles Kibiru

The Kirinyaga senator defied the odds in the 2017 General Election to beat Jubilee's Daniel Karaba after vying as an independent candidate. Kibiru previously worked as a commercial director at Nairobi Water Company. In May 2010, he quit the job and ventured into business.
