Kenya Covid-19 Updates: May 06 2020

Wednesday May 6 2020, CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that Forty-Seven new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed within the past 24 hours bringing the total number to 582.

Thirty-Two (32) are from Mombasa, eleven (11) Nairobi, two (2) Busia, one (1) Kiambu and one (1) Kwale.

8 patients discharged bringing the total number of discharges to 190.

Total deaths are now at 26 with 2 deaths having been reported.

Epicentres identified are Eastleigh and old town in Mombasa.

In order to contain the virus further containment, the ministry of health has further declared secession of movement in Old town and Eastleigh for the next 15 days effective May 6th 2020 from 7pm.

"You cannot leave the area to go to another area. This will take place for 15 days," he said.

Kagwe said public transportation will also not be allowed to go to those areas.

"This is to protect those within those areas," Kagwe said.

The government also said it will cater for the costs of quarantining patients in state facilities.

"The cost of targeted testing and quarantine in government facilities shall be met by the government," Kagwe said on Wednesday.

This is a relief to Kenyans who had complained about being asked to pay  quarantine costs
