Breaking News: 9, June 2020 - Latest Kenya Covid-19 Cases and Updates
Kenya on Tuesday 9th June 2020 recorded 127 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's total number to 2,989.
This is out of the 2,247 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours.
Nairobi has 62 cases, Mombasa 34, Bungoma 3, Kwale, and Uasin Gishu have one each. On a sad note, three people have died, raising the death toll to 88.
A total of 72 health workers have Covid-19.
Twenty-four more patients have been discharged.
Health CAS Rashid Aman has said none of the people discharged have been reinfected with Covid-19.
"As far as I know, we release them after full recovery and we know they are progressing well since we have not recorded any reinfection," he said.
A total of 873 patients have recovered from the disease. Aman's statement comes as a Covid-19 survivor from the Kajiado North sub-county died after developing breathing complications.
According to sources, a few days after leaving the hospital last month, she started experiencing breathing problems and was taken for admission at Kitengela Hospital but was later transferred to Kajiado.
“The last few days, she had been unresponsive and breathing with the help of oxygen,” the source said.
In April, she was admitted at Kenyatta University Teaching Referral Hospital after testing positive and recovered from the virus a month later.
Meanwhile, Aman said Kenyans over the age of 60 do not have to wear N95 masks, though they should try to stay home and only go out when necessary.
Acknowledging that N95 masks are in limited supply - even for medical workers who need them the most - and are costly, he said wearing them is a personal choice.
WHO had recommended in new guidelines that individuals over 60 wear N95 masks, which give the highest level of protection out of the protective face coverings available.
Aman also said N95 masks are uncomfortable and those wearing them sometimes find it difficult to breathe.
He said surgical masks can be used, but caution is of importance to prevent contracting the disease.
