Kiambu: DP Ruto Calls For Unity Ahead Of The August Polls As He Drums Up Support For His State House Bid

Deputy President William Ruto has reiterated his call for unity in the nation ahead of the August 9 polls.

While attending a church service at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Kiambu County on Sunday, Ruto emphasized the need of a unified nation saying that every Kenyan should exercise their democratic rights without being coerced by anyone.

The second-in-command said it is time the country moved away from retrogressive politics and elect leaders who will deliver on the country's needs.

"Mimi nawaomba sisi wote katika taifa la Kenya ya kwamba tufanye uchaguzi wa amani tuhakikishe kwamba kila mtu anapata nafasi ya uhuru na haki ya kuchagua yule mtu ambaye anamtaka bila ya kushurutishwa, kulazimishwa ama kusukumwa kwa njia yoyote," stated Ruto.

Meanwhile, Ruto promised he would provide a Ksh.50 billion annual kitty for small businesses operating in Kiambu County to cushion them from predatory lenders as part of his bottom up economic model.

He similarly emphasized on setting aside Ksh.100 billion for youth empowerment and creation of 4 million jobs.

"We shall put enough money to help boost the small businesses. We shall put Ksh 50 billion into these businesses. We shall boost everyone's businesses so that everyone gets to be proud of beig a Kenyan," said Ruto at a roadside rally after the service.

"Ile program tulikua tumepanga ya ajira ya vijana nawatangazia mwaka huu tunaweka Ksh.100 billion kuweka ajira ya vijana as a matter of first priority," he said.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader further blamed his rival ODM leader Raila Odinga, saying the Big Four Agenda crumbled following his interference in Jubilee party affairs.

"Huyo bwana kitendawili na project yake ya BBI tumepata hasara kubwa. In five years we have lost the Jubilee party, our government got lots of challenges, our Big-four plan got stuck and the opposition was deteriorated."

Ruto was flanked by MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Charles Njagua (Starehe), Njuguna Wanjiku (Kiambaa), James Githua (Kabete) and Westlands hopeful MP Nelson Havi.
