Battle of Titans in Tharaka Nithi as Ex-NCIC Boss Mzalendo Kibunjia Joins Gubernatorial Race

The Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial race has gathered momentum seven months to the August 9 elections.

So far, the county's top seat has only attracted male aspirants, with no female declaring interest in the coveted position.

As the election clock ticks, the list continues to grow, with professionals coming out in droves in a bid to take charge of the county's affairs in August.

Former National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia is the latest entrant for the county's gubernatorial race.

The seat is currently held by the incumbent Muthomi Njuki, serving his first term and seeking election.

Mzalendo, the current National Museums of Kenya director-general, is banking on his record at NCIC to unite the country's leadership and later use the managerial skills earned as a long-serving civil servant.

He believes that the county has failed to develop due to leadership battles, especially between the governor and the senator.

"This county is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). I want to see how best I can help bring it to the general ward," Mzalendo told TUKO.co.ke.
