Uhuru Kenyatta Pumps Billions Into Legacy Projects as Final Term Nears End

President Uhuru Kenyatta is keen on delivering to Kenyans all the key legacy projects of his administration before exciting office in August this year.

In this regard, Uhuru has set aside KSh 22 billion to fast-track completion of these projects which include roads, water, housing and hospitals.

The Treasury has submitted a supplementary budget to parliament for approval in order to finance the ongoing work.

Roads have received a huge chunk of the additional allocations with KSh 2 billion set aside for the construction of the Eastern Bypass.

The 28-kilometre dual carriageway, which stretches through busy City centres such as City Cabannas, Pipeline, Utawala and Ruiru, will ease traffic on the key road linking Mombasa Road to Thika Superhighway.

Another KSh 1.9 billion has been provided for the construction of the Garissa-Isiolo road. The 305km road forms part of the 1,250km long Lamu Corridor road project.

Upon completion, the project will be Kenya’s second transport corridor and will benefit key towns including Lamu, Garissa and Isiolo in Kenya, Juba in Southern Sudan and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.

Uhuru’s administration has allocated KSh 1 billion for the construction of the Makupa Causeway bridge in Mombasa county, and another KSh 1.4 billion for the improvement of roads around the area.
