Mau Mau Veteran Files Petition Seeking Removal of William Ruto for Absconding Duty:

A section of Mau Mau freedom fighters has filed a case in the High Court in Nairobi seeking to have Deputy President William Ruto ousted from his office.

Led by Michael Kirungia, the veterans argue that Ruto relinquished his position long ago and had embarked on early campaigns using state resources.

The case was filed by Kirungia under an emergency document.

They faulted Ruto for insubordination, further arguing that he was no longer undertaking his constitutional duties as the substantial assistant to the president.

"We elected him with President Uhuru Kenyatta but we see he is not performing his duties. He worked in the first term but in the second one we have not seen him doing anything. We are disappointed to see him absconding from his duty to concentrate on UDA. We now want him to leave office so that he can concentrate on his party. We also want an order issued to bar him from using state resources for his campaigns. He needs to belong to one place. He said that "hapangwingwi" but we want to assure him the constitution will deal with him," said Kirungia.

This came against the backdrop of resignation calls forwarded to the deputy president by the Jubilee party officials who accused him of riding on the government's successes for his political expediency.
