“William Ruto’s plot to oust Uhuru Kenyatta started in 2013”: Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has weighed in on the alleged attempt by Deputy President William Ruto to oust President Uhuru Kenyatta through an impeachment motion.

Wandayi, who is serving his second term as a lawmaker, alleged the plot by Ruto and his allies to kick out the president commenced way back in 2013, just after the Jubilee government was formed.

According to the vocal MP who also chairs the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, Ruto’s allies initiated the conversation to have Uhuru impeached on several occasions and often attempted to lure the opposition to back the plan.

Wandayi claimed the discussions were held in the corridors of parliament during in-between sessions and were conveyed in a way intended to attract the support of the opposition.

“I was in the last parliament and there were talks in the corridors from some of the Ruto MPs trying to test the waters and see if we (opposition MPs) would play along,” said the Ugunja lawmaker during an interview with Citizen TV.

The ODM legislator argued that although the president had brought up the matter during his final term in office, the plot to kick him out was hatched during his administration's first term.

He challenged Ruto and his allies to come out and clear the air.

Ruto has already dismissed the claims saying the president was trying to whip emotions and tarnish his name for political reasons.
