Shimanyula: I'll Sell My Property to Ensure Cleophas Malala Doesn't Become Kakamega Governor

Kakamega business mogul Cleophas Shimanyula alias Toto has claimed the move by former senator Boni Khalwale to back Cleophas Malala's gubernatorial bid was choreographed by Deputy President William Ruto.

In an interview with Nyota TV on Wednesday, March 29, Shimanyula, who owns Kenya Premier League (KPL) high-flying contenders, Kakamega Homeboyz, vowed to use his financial power to stop Malala from succeeding the outgoing Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

The controversial businessman claimed that Khalwale was bribed by Ruto to pave way for Malala whom he claimed had become "a nuisance" to the DP over his endless calls to compel him to pick his running mate from Western.

"Khalwale was bribed KSh 3 million to step down for Malala. Since that day, have you ever seen him (Malala) pushing his agenda on Mudavadi becoming Ruto's running mate?" Shimanyula asked.

He argued that Khalwale was more popular and experienced than Malala who joined active politics in 2013 when he was elected as an MCA.

Shimanyulu claimed the decision by Khalwale, popular known as the bullfighter, to back Malala was suspicious and should not be entertained.

"If you go the ground, youth out there are crying foul of the move. They say if Malala ascends to power Kakamega will be 'finished'. I will use three-quarters (3/4) of my wealth to support Fernandes Barasa's campaign and make sure he beats Malala," he said.

Shamanyula further argued that the former Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited boss Fernandes Barasa is fit for handling county finances as opposed to Malala.

He said that he will sell two of his trucks and Matatus to take Barasa across the county and enlighten electorates about the Khalwale-Malala plot.
