Martha Koome Reprimands Nelson Havi, Ahmednasir for Using Social Media to Intimidate Judges

Chief Justice Martha Koome has called out lawyers Nelson Havi and Ahmednasir Abdulahi for trying to influence the Court.

While delivering the Supreme Court's ruling on the Building Bridges Initiative appeal case on Thursday, March 31, Koome told off the lawyers for their practise on social media platforms.

"Learned Counsel Nelson Havi and Esther Ang'awa who appeared as the first respondent took to social media on Twitter on different occasions and cast aspersions on the court. Equally culpable is the conduct of Ahmednasir Abdulahi who took the lead role in disparaging and dismantling this court as evidenced by his posts on various dates and even as late as yesterday. This amounts to unethical conduct on the part of the council," said Koome.

She further called on the lawyers to conduct themselves in line with the standards of professional practice and ethical conduct of the profession.

Koome warned that the practice would negatively influence Kenyans' confidence in the judicial system and erode the strides made over the years if not checked.

She further pointed out that the court had noted the practice and called on parties in various court cases to desist from trying to influence the court to rule in a certain way.
