Charles Owino Scoffs at Edwin Sifuna after Ditching ODM

Former police spokesperson Charles Owino has slammed ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna days after ditching the party for United Democratic Movement (UDM).

Speaking to journalists on Friday, April 1, Owino said Sifuna was afraid his team, with former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, would beat the ODM candidate in Siaya gubernatorial race.

"Sifuna is simply scared of our ability. They know Gumbo and I can deliver for ODM. If they wanted to hire us even today, they know we will deliver. But if they do not want, we seek to avoid what we call voter apathy," said Owino.

Owino categorically stated that he wants ODM leader and Azimio presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga to get more votes in the August 9 polls.

He urged all aspirants supporting Raila's presidential bid to vie on parties of their choice and campaign to the end to help the ODM boss marshall sufficient numbers to ascend to power.

"We would want Raila to get as many votes as possible. We want to encourage all aspirants to run for any other party tickets so that we do not lose any votes. Raila has grown bigger than ODM, and that is why we call him Baba," he argued.

Although he lauded ODM for upholding democracy and transparency in line with Raila's vision, he warned that Sifuna could destroy the party.

Owino was responding to the ODM secretary general's claims that he joined UDM alongside Gumbo to frustrate ODM and hence should be rejected by voters.
