Raila Odinga Condemns Violence Witnessed in Uasin Gishu

Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has condemned the violence witnessed in Uasin Gishu, blaming local leaders.

In a statement released on Friday, April 1, the former premier said Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago and Soy MP Caleb Kositany are responsible for orchestrating the events.

He challenged the two and other local leaders to come out and condemn the incidents witnessed during the day.

"For today's unfortunate events, I hold Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandagor and Soy MP. Hon. Caleb Kositany responsible.I call on the two, and all leaders from the region who believe in our constitution, to come out now, not later," said Raila.

Raila stated that the attack rekindled Kenya's dark memories, particularly the 1992 and 2007-2008 polls that witnessed violence.

He further pointed out that someone had assembled a band of extremist youth to cause chaos, but still, he remains confident that Kenya would have a peaceful, free and fair.

"In the run-up to August, someone seems to be assembling a ragtag band of extremist youths, before pushing us into mayhem. Despite the violence meted out on me and my team today, I remain optimistic that Kenya will hold a peaceful, free and fair election in August," added Raila.
