Micah Kigen’s Entry Complicates Political Battle for Keiyo South MP Seat

Former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Elgeyo Marakwet branch chairman Micah Kigen’s entry into the hotly contested Keiyo South parliamentary race is expected to give his opponents sleepless nights as the battle for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket takes shape in the region.

Keiyo South is one of the four constituencies of Elgeyo Marakwet county that has been represented in parliament by only three MPs since it was established in 1969.

Kigen, who has since decamped ODM and will be vying for the seat on a KANU ticket, said he was determined to give his opponents a hard time to capture the seat.

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, Kigen expressed optimism that he would serve Keiyo South residents differently if elected as their next MP.

“All I can tell them is that I will meet their expectations, aspirations and priorities; an MP they had never seen since 1969 when Keiyo South constituency was created; an MP who will conduct an annual participatory review of progress in development and reward development champions from all sectors in Keiyo South,” Kigen said.

If elected, Kigen said he would acquire part of the Kaptagat forest and turn it into an industrial park for approximately 100 industries.

Paul Kibet, a political analyst from Elgeyo Marakwet county, said Kigen has a 65% chance of clinching the seat.
