William Ruto to Personally Supervise UDA Nominations

Deputy President William Ruto has said that he will supervise United Democratic Alliance party (UDA) nominations for the fair exercise.

Speaking at his Karen residence on Monday, April 4, the second in command assured aspirants that the nominations will be free and fair.

Ruto told UDA members that he will ensure that there will be a free, democratic and fair nomination within the party from Thursday, April 14 hence they should not be worried.

He said the party had already printed 30 million nomination ballot papers and the remaining 15 million that are still outstanding will be ready in the next 3 days so that they can be ready by this weekend.

"I want to assure all the candidates that we have the necessary experience and knowledge to run a credible nomination exercise and that we also know the importance of the exercise. I will personally supervise the nominations to ensure that the exercise is free and that every member gets an opportunity to be voted for and to win or not win fairly," Ruto said.

A few days ago, UDA's National Elections Board (NEB) chairman Anthony Mwaura said the nomination for all the wards, constituencies and counties will be held on the same day.

Mwaura said the party will subject all aspirants to a competitive exercise save for areas where there is a single aspirant.

Mwaura added that UDA had put in place the necessary machinery, including inviting international observers, to ensure the exercise goes on smoothly.

According to the elections board, over 6,000 aspirants have applied to contest on the party's ticket.
