Wiper Picks Mike Sonko's Former Chief of Staff Ben Mulwa to Run for Nairobi Governor's Seat

Nairobi gubernatorial race continues to gain momentum as political parties concentrate on nominations ahead of the August 9 General Election.

Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper party has set the pace for other outfits after settling on former governor Sonko's chief of staff Ben Mulwa to fly its flag in the contest.

Mulwa was issued the party ticket on Wednesday, April 6, after emerging as the only aspirant to show interest in running on the party’s ticket.

Wiper became the first party to issue a direct gubernatorial ticket for Nairobi as other parties grapple with nominations ahead of the August 2022 General Election.

“I have blessings from my party leader and he believes that I have what it takes to lead Nairobi for the next five years," said Mulwa.

Mulwa thanked the part for the consideration, adding that this is the time to open a new chapter for Nairobi.

“Our journey has been long, but the time has come to usher in a new chapter in the management of Kenya’s city,” said Mulwa in his acceptance speech.

He thanked the Wiper party leader and the entire party for smoothening his course to City Hall.

“My commitment to redeem, reclaim and restore the long-lost glory of our city remains firm. It is now the time to hit the ground running,” said Mulwa.
