8 Political Parties Threaten to Walk out of Azimio

Eight political parties have threatened to ditch the newly created Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition that is backing ODM leader Raila Odinga's presidency.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 6, the parties collectively identified as Mwanzo Mpya decried being alienated during key decision making in the coalition.

Led by Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, the caucus lamented they were not briefed before the merger of Azimio la Umoja and One Kenya Alliance, saying they learned it through the media.

As a result, Mutua regretted that the leadership of Azimio had been reduced to only three parties: Jubilee, ODM and Wiper, leaving out the founding parties.

Consequently, the parties asked Raila to recognise them by including them on the elections board and considering their views since they represent a significant voting bloc.

Other demands of the caucus include:

1. They should be the fourth leg caucus.

2. They must renegotiate the document.

3. There cannot have zoning.

4. The deposited document has to be withdrawn.

5. There has to be a consensus on all decisions.

6. There has to be a consensus on all nominations.

7. The deputy president choice must be through consensus just as we agreed on the presidential candidate

8. The positions which we agreed in at K.I.C.C must be honoured.

Failure to meet the demands, the caucus said they will pull out and form their own coalition and enter into a post-election agreement.

The eight parties include:

1. Maendeleo Chap Chap- Alfred Mutua.

2. Muungano- Governor Kivutha Kibwana

3. Kenya Reform Party

4. Chama Cha Uzalendo

5. Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K)-Eugine Wamalwa

6. PPT

7. NARC- Charity Ngilu.

8. Maendeleo Democratic Party
