Youths Storm Streets to Protest against Direct Nominations in ODM

Homa Bay youths have expressed disappointment in the ODM party’s move to give direct tickets to aspirants for various positions in the county.

The youths who were speaking to the press during a peaceful demonstration expressed displeasure in the tendency of the party to choose leaders for the people and constituting the lack of development in most of the party stronghold regions.

While acknowledging the efforts of the party leader Raila Odinga to create a consensus between the aspirants, one of the youths, Fred Okello, expressed the need for the people to participate in electing leaders for themselves.

“Direct ticketing has robbed us as youths and voters in Homa Bay of the opportunity to elect a leader we believe to have our best interests at heart and develop our county,” stated Okello.

He further stated that both the county and the younger generation's future depended on the type of leaders elected in the August election, adding that the current leadership had done little to put Homa Bay in per with other counties.

“As voters of Homa Bay we would like to distance ourselves from the selfish procedures of the ODM party that disregard the rights of Homa Bay people and imposes leaders on us,” added Okello.

The youths declared their support for former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero who is running for the county gubernatorial seat on an independent ticket to ensure the people have a choice in electing a leader who will not serve the selfish interests of a few individuals.
