David Ndii's Wife Mwende Causes Storm

David Ndii’s wife Mwende Gatabaki has caused a storm on social media after disclosing the economist intimated to her that the much-hyped bottom-up economic model cannot work in some counties in the country.

Mwende who appeared on TV 47 morning show on Thursday, April 7, said Ndii informed her the economic model he is advancing cannot work in rich counties like Kiambu and Nakuru.

She likened Kiambu to a middle-income county that does not require what her husband was proposing as the solution to Kenya’s economic problems.

Mwende is seeking Kiambu gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.

She categorically stated that she won’t use the bottom-up economic model if she is elected the next governor of the populous county.

“He (Ndii) was the one who told me that the bottom-up economic model would not work in counties such as Kiambu and Nakuru. Kiambu is a very wealthy county and we are already in the middle-class level. All other counties are working to be at the level where Kiambu is. In the case of the bottom-up model, it's meant for the other counties," she stated.

Ndii is Deputy President William Ruto's chief economic strategist and advisor on matters of economy and policy.
