Netizens Clash over Photos of Crowd Attending William Ruto's Rally at Jacaranda Grounds

On Sunday, January 16, Deputy President William Ruto held a mega political rally at Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi East, Nairobi, to popularise his presidential bid.

Earlier in the day, the second in command attended a church service at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (P.C.E.A), Neema Parish, in Pipeline.

After the service, while en-route to Jacaranda, the DP made a stopover at the Pipeline shopping centre where he addressed his charged followers by the roadside.

However, the crowd that thronged the Jacaranda grounds was a bone of contention on social media. Whereas Ruto's supporters said the convention, which they termed as "mother of all rallies" was a success, his critics shared photos of an almost empty field to paint the image that the rally had flopped. Another user, speaking to TUKO.co.ke claimed the "few" attendees of the rally had been ferried from other areas after the Tanga Tanga brigade realised the area residents had given the meeting a wide berth.

Other images used to paint the empty field, TUKO.co.ke established that they had not been taken from Jacaranda.
