Yoweri Museveni Promises to Keep Off Kenyan Politics Ahead of August Polls:

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has promised that his government would not interfere with Kenya's August polls.

Deputy President William Ruto shares a close relationship with the long-serving Ugandan president and has previously come under criticism for getting involved in Uganda's politics.

During an interview with Uganda's New Vision newspaper on Monday, January 24, Museveni said the elections are Kenyans' affairs.

"Elections in Kenya or any other African country are a matter for the people of that country," said the Ugandan Head of State.

He said that just like any polls in Africa, his country does not take sides; hence they do not have a preferred candidate in Kenya.

"We never take sides in the internal affairs of other countries. So, we have no side in the Kenya elections," he added.
