Parties Given Until April 28th to Present Presidential Candidates after Primary or Direct Nominations

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released an election roadmap for the 2022 General Election. 

In a gazette dated Thursday, January 20, IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati confirmed the General Election shall be held on Tuesday, August 9 according to the Elections Regulations Act of 2013. 

At the same time, Chebukati directed political parties to submit membership lists to the commission on or before Sunday, April 9. 

Parties that intend to conduct nominations for the presidential candidates will present the candidates' names, date, and venue of the party primary on or before Saturday, April 9. 

Similarly, political parties intending to contest in the presidential election through a direct nomination of their candidate must submit his or her name on or before April 28, 2022. Independent candidates have also been reminded to renounce party membership by May 2.
