Governor Kimani Wamatangi Pledges to enhance Agriculture Sectorr

Guaranteed Minimum Returns (GMR)

The Governor Wamatangi administration will ensure that farmers receive guaranteed minimum returns for their farming efforts. The initial priority areas will be in the milk, coffee, tea, maize and horticulture sub-sectors.

Farm Input Subsidy Program

Farmers often face challenges with raising money to pay for farming inputs. This is especially an issue for small-scale farmers. To address this, the Governor Wamatangi administration will supplement existing subsidy programs to reduce farming input costs in order to improve farming outcomes. This is in line with the bottom-up credo of uplifting the mama-mbogas of this economy, who are the true drivers of economic growth.

Training of Youth in Agriculture

We will train the youth as agriculture extension workers and also focus on incentivizing youth and women to work in farming as a path to sustainable, long-term wealth creation.

Support for Smart Agriculture Techniques

Local and international partners will be engaged to implement market leading smart agriculture techniques to enhance farming yields and maximize usage of water sources. This will also ensure efficient utilization of diminished agricultural land.

Storage and Warehousing Facilities

Cold storage, warehousing, and drying silos will be provisioned to cater for seasonality, regulate demand and supply of the farm produce and protect farmers from seasonal price fluctuations
