Governor Joshua Irungu Promises on Water & Sanitation

  • Promote Universal Access to Safe domestic Water in Laikipia through construction of boreholes, water storage tanks, water management and water distribution to all households.
  • Establish a Rural Water Services Board to ensure existing rural water infrastructure serves the people optimally Provide at least 50,000 water tanks to household across the county and promote rainwater harvesting, storage, and treatment.
  • Extension of water infrastructure to more households in all the three municipalities.
  • Fence all dams to avert human and livestock disaster. Construct dams, water pans and sink boreholes to increase supply for domestic and livestock consumption.
  • Promote low-cost solutions of domestic water treatment such as chlorine tablets or boiling to improve water quality Establish a Laikipia North Water and Sewerage Company and Board.
  • Provide water facilities in schools and TVET for drinking and good hygiene practices such as hand washing with soap and water to reduce covid transmission.
  • Ensure water companies reduce non-revenue water.
  • Design and construct water system and sewerage treatment plant for Rumuruti Municipality.
  • Desilt existing dams.
  • Design, expand and construct a new sewer treatment plant in Nanyuki Town and relocate the existing one from the residential area.
  • Expansion of sewerage infrastructure in Nyahururu Town.
  • Construct a solid waste management plan for Rumuruti.
  • Support the youth to run garbage collection and disposal businesses in Laikipia, Nyahururu and Rumuruti Towns.
