Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif Pledges On Improving Food Security

In the next five years, my Government shall:

  • Provide agricultural input (seed, fertilizers and equipment) as well as subsidies to improve productivity and farm income.
  • Increase the area under irrigation to 30,000 acres through expansion and rehabilitation of old schemes.
  • Introduce a County Government purchase programme for cereals and other staple crops to incentivize farmers.
  • Deliver sharia-compliant credit facilities for private investors interested in establishing modern agricultural and livestock farming enterprises that support value addition.
  • Expand veterinary and agricultural extension services through investment in human capital and physical infrastructure.
  • Reduce food insecurity by improving food storage to reduce post-harvest losses.
  • Intensify research and create more demonstration plots for purposes of building the capacity of farming communities.
