Governor Sakaja Promises To Sustainably Clean Up Filth in Nairobi Estates

Residents of densely populated Pipeline Estate in Nairobi county have had to bear living with garbage right outside their doorstep for months.

While responding to a tweet by @NationAfrica, showing the sorry state of the area, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has explained he is not blind to this fact and that wheels cleaning up the city are rolling. https://youtu.be/CCkhLzBQ0Dg

In the tweet, the governor explained that it’s not only Pipeline Estate that is suffering this unhygienic fate but also other residential areas.

“Not just Pipeline Estate. A lot of Nairobi has been like this. Months of neglect, illegal dumping in undesignated sites, garbage contractors downing their tools due to money owed (3b). In our first month in office, we have collected >70k tonnes. You will see sustainable changes.” – Sakaja noted in his Tweet.

When Sakaja become county boss, city residents called on him to act with immediacy and prioritise dealing with poorly dumped garbage, as it was becoming a health concern: Nairobi’s Eyesore
