Governor James Orengo Promises on Water & Water Resources

Internationally, water is deemed as a right of all citizens. Locally the constitution of Kenya recognizes the same right and makes it clear that Kenyan citizens have a right to access clean water.

The law further bestows upon county government the responsibility to deliver on water services and supply. It therefore behooves us to lay into motion systems and procedures that are fundamental to the progressive realization of this right.

James Orengo and Nyalore team shall;

  • Endeavor to provide clean and safe drinking water for all in Siaya County.
  • Map out all our water resources, lakes, rivers, dams and boreholes.
  • Promote management and funding of water management bodies and service providers, e.g SIBOWASCO.
  • Enhance water reticulation and pipeline extension to ensure access within a radius of max 1km throughout Siaya County.
  • Create an enabling environment for private water service providers like PiSoko and Penwa, e.g concessions on way leaves, plan approvals, lobbying of national government. Partner with LVSWSB in implementing water and sewerage projects, across the county.
  • Modernise water piers (Asembo Bay, Usenge and Luanda Kotieno to encourage inter-county trade between Kisumu, Homabay and Busia.
  • Pump water from L. Victoria to the highest part in Bondo and Asembo and supply to homes.
  • Provide water tanks to select needy families for rain water harvesting.
  • Open a ring road around Lake Kanyaboli to promote tourism, fishing and sports.
  • Attract and encourage private sector investment in infrastructure development and management.
  • Revitalize inland waterways and port infrastructure in the lake region.
  • Link Siaya with other neighboring counties by building piers in all the landing beaches with a view to anchoring larger boats and organized docking.
