Environment

  • Strengthen Ward Climate Change committees adaptation and mitigation efforts through the FLLOCA and Climate Change Fund.
  • Formulate policies on sand harvesting and growing of Eucalyptus in riverine areas
  • Collaborate with the NCCD, to expand a County Climate Change Unit to promote
    climate change mitigation and adaptation measures, with a strong component on public education and awareness
  • Collaborate with the NEMA in building capacity for environmental and social impact assessments of development projects and programmes and in waste management, and pollution control in order to keep our County environment clean and healthy
  • Collaborate with National Agencies like the WaRMA, Kenya Wildlife Services,KFS, and Regional Water Services Boards to conserve the County water resources, forests and wildlife.
  • Initiate and implement a land and soil conservation programme
  • Implement environmental awareness and education programme focusing on primary and secondary schools

Energy

  • Promote investment in renewable energy, particularly solar and wind energy. Through partnerships, I will seek development of small hydropower stations where feasible
  • Promote use of clean cooking stoves and discourage long-term use of firewood
  • Promote and support the uptake of solar power systems in our public
    primary and secondary schools, technical and vocational training institutes and in our dispensaries, health centers and hospitals as well as at households levels
  • Promote use of LPG in cooking in our institutions in collaboration with partners
