Sector Goals:
i. Ensure sustainable and efficient use and management of land, for orderly development of urban and rural areas

ii. Improve spatial planning and physical planning for proper planning of county space.

iii. Ensure proper solid waste management system through protection of existing dumpsites Wajir County Integrated Development Plan 2023-2027 Page 101 of 268 iv.

iv. Improve sanitation systems across the county

v. Ensure enhanced capacity of the county on disaster management and response and appropriate equipment e.g. firefighting equipment, water rescue, etc.

Sector Priorities and Strategies
· Improve land use planning and management

i. Prepare County Spatial Plan(CSP), Municipal & Integrated Urban Spatial Plans and Town Area Plans.

ii. Delineate Municipalities and Towns from Community Land to Public Land. Develop and enact supporting policies and legislation.

iii. Development control through vetting and approval of development applications e.g. Building Plans, Change of Use, Extension of Use, etc.

iv. Upgrading of informal settlement in major urban centres in the county.

v. Planning infrastructure development for informal settlements in the county

· Human Resource Development and Management Strengthening institutional capacity through training and capacity building.

i. Ensure continuous human resource development through re-training of existing staffs.

ii. Recruitment of additional technical staffs.

iii. Stakeholder sensitization on land sector policies and laws; Physical and Land Use Planning Act and Community land Act.

· Improved urban areas governance and development

i. Establish and Strengthen urban management & institutional governance structures. Improve coordination and response to disasters at the urban areas.

ii. Establishment of key urban infrastructure (markets, recreational centres, street lights and bus/car parks).

· Improved Municipality environmental management Development of modern eco-friendly infrastructures.

i. Expansion of garbage collection coverage.

ii. Public sensitization and education on waste management. Separation of solid waste and liquid waste management in the county
