81 Kenyan Health Workers Infected with COVID-19

The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists' Union notes that the infection of health workers with COVID-19 is on the rise.

According to KMPDU latest report on occupational safety and health, a total of 81 health workers have been reported to be infected with the disease.

60% of health worker infections are workplace related i.e. quarantine sites and contact with Covid-19 patients.

The statistics are: Mombasa (41) and Nairobi (32) the highest number of healthcare workers affected.

Kiambu has 4. Kitui, Machakos, Laikipia and Kajiado have 1 reported each. This highlights the need for continuous provision of adequate and quality personal proctective equipment (PPE).

The acting secretary general, Dr. Chibanzi Mwachonda in a statement thanked the Kenya Covid-19 Fund board for prioritizing procurement of PPEs to protect our health practitioners.

However, he urged all the two levels of government to equally prioritize and provide PPEs to health workers.
