Boni Khalwale

Boni Khalwale, popularly known as the bullfighter, is a seasoned Kenyan politician and medical doctor who currently serves as the Senator for Kakamega County. Born on 5 August 1960 in Malinya, Kakamega, he studied medicine at the University of Nairobi, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology before venturing into politics. His political career began in 2002 when he was elected Member of Parliament for Ikolomani Constituency under NARC, later retaining the seat in 2007 with New Ford Kenya. Khalwale rose to national prominence as chair of the Public Accounts Committee, where he spearheaded censure motions against powerful cabinet ministers, earning a reputation as a fearless defender of accountability. He was first elected Senator in 2013 under UDF, and after a brief hiatus, returned in 2022 under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), where he now serves as Deputy Majority Whip in the Senate. Beyond politics, Khalwale is deeply rooted in his community, supporting grassroots development and healthcare initiatives, while his nickname reflects both his bold debating style and his cultural ties to bullfighting traditions in Western Kenya.
