Murang'a is derived from two Gikuyu words: Mura - which means the tip of the spear, or the spear head, and ng'a, which is the sound that the spearhead makes when its rammed into the Murang'a stones. This comes from the raiding days of the Agikuyu, where the warriors would ram their spears hard into the rock to give the enemy a sense of numbers superiority and also incite fear before attacking.
