Presidential Hopeful George Wajackoyah Promises to Legalise Bhang if Elected:

Presidential aspirant George Wajackoyah has rekindled the debate on the legalisation of bhang after promising to legalise the plant if elected president in August.

Wajackoyah's sentiments come days after Thailand became the first country in Asia to decriminalise the drug.

The immigration lawyer said bhang is illegal in Kenya because Africa's colonial masters made it so.

"Bhang must be planted. If in the US they plant marijuana. Where did it come from? If you are in Jamaica it is planted and sold in shops. It is the Europeans who gave Africans the idea that it is bad but the truth is Omusala (bhang) is okay." he said.

He said that Europeans made Africans stop using bhang and adopt their whisky drinks and tobacco cigarettes through Christianity.

"The bhang planted in Bunyore can really boost people if it is exported to Britain. We were indoctrinated into Christianity that chang'aa and bhang are bad but whisky and their tobacco cigarettes are good. Our ancestors used to take bhang and stay for long," explained the seasoned lawyer.

Wajackoyah explained that Kenya could adopt the plant to uplift its economy and even create employment.

"Our work is to plant it and export it to the outside market. Let us use that money to build our economy. If there is something we can do to lift our economy let's do it. We can make soap, cancer treatment and it's okay," stated Wajackoyah.
